Community Updates: 

  • Poets and Writers is sponsoring an Open-Mic Poetry and Performance event on October 17 in the A.S. Campus Community Garden (372 E. San Salvador) from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. The event is called "Feeding Our Hunger: Poets Respond to Food Insecurity/Sharing Our Culture(s). Featuring MFA poets Addie Mahmassani and Felipe De La Rosa, and Brandon Luu, San Jose Cultural Ambassador; plus music by Addie M. and Tyler Eveland. Emcee Mighty Mike McGee. Bring a poem, prose-poem, or performance piece that addresses issues of hunger and/or celebrates your food culture(s). Or just come to soak in the sun, enjoy the readings and performances, and the ambiance of the A.S. Campus Community Garden during this time of beautiful Northern California harvest-time.   • Okunyi Chol, Archivist for DPWC will be moderating CLA Book Club discussion of Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson.
